The Hon. Onwubiko Innocent Football Competition

Registration, both offline and online, starts from 25th October to 8th November 2021.

First Edition (2016)

The competition started in 2016, with 12 participating in teams from 23 villages that make up the Eziama Clan. The inaugural edition was won by Umualum United FC. The Cover prize tag of the inaugural Edition was N500,000.

Second Edition (2017)

The second edition (2017) was expanded to 16 Teams and was played by Indegenious Clubsides, who were allowed to fuss in four professional players to boost their teams. The second edition was won by Lions FC Okpala. The Cover Prize amount was N700,000. Peter Okoye of the defunct Psqare was the star artist at the opening ceremony.

Third Edition (2018)

The third edition was further expanded to cover what is known as the MBAISI COURT AREA, which is comprised of about 10 autonomous communities in Ngor-Okpala LGA. This edition was won by Raiders FC, Umumahi. The cover Prize amount was N1M. The Star Artiste of the Tournament was Cele Bobo. Others include Bracket and Rough Coin. The former Captain/Coach of the Super Eagles took the kickoff of the final match.

The Fourth Edition

(2019). The cover prize amount for the fourth edition was N1.8M. This Edition was won by Ogbe City United FC. This edition attracted former captain of Super Eagles, NWANKWO KANU (opening ceremony), and ex-international Daniel Amokachi.

Fifth Edition (2020)

The fifth edition was a special edition because it had Teams from Two Geo-Political Zones. Six out of sixteen teams came from Port Harcourt. Four are from Umuahia, two are from Aba, etc. This edition was won by PACESETTERS FC, Umuohie Ukwu. The Cover Prize amount of this Edition was N2.8m.

The Six Edition (Current Edition)

This Edition of the Tournament has three distinct strata: The OISA Professional League (16 Teams format, grouped into 4.). The Eziama Super Cup (8 Team Format of 2 groups) and OISA Female Tournament of 4 Team Format.

The competition is an annual football competition organized by an American-based philanthropist by the name of Hon. Chief Innocent Chidorom Onwubiko, a businessman and a lover of football who made him build the first private stadium in Ngor-Okpala and Imo State.

Hon. Onwubiko, who in his playing days was a very fine player and has participated severally in previous editions of this competition and has played football to a professional level, is the sponsor of this prestigious event in collaboration with distinguished sons and daughters of Eziama Ancient Kingdom. This year’s Edition is the 6th Annual Edition. Eziama Football League is a Football competition made up of Eight Teams from the four Autonomous Communities that make up the Eziama Ancient Kingdom. The competition has been around for as long as 50 years. The competition allows talented Eziama youths to showcase their football technique and talent, and it is also an avenue for scouts and coaches to select players and offer them professional training and footballing contracts.
